Paul King’s career has evolved into a mature state of clarity and independence, grounded in decades of rigorous practice and inquiry. His work has been collected internationally through galleries and exhibitions, and he is now poised for renewed engagement with discerning curators and gallerists.
Raised in the Philadelphia area, King received a BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art, a four-year certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and an MFA from Boston University. His formative years included study with nationally recognized artists and extensive travel throughout Europe, where he immersed himself in its major art centers. This broad and immersive education established both the technical command and conceptual foundation that continue to inform his work.
King later served for nearly three decades as a painting and anatomy arts professor in the Philadelphia region, most notably at the University of the Arts, while maintaining an active exhibition schedule. Over time, his work evolved from lyrical representation toward a more painterly abstraction, driven by an ongoing search for deeper meaning and a commitment to artistic integrity. His practice reflects a sustained inquiry into perception, structure, and the underlying dynamics of experience.
Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, King maintains a dedicated studio where he continues to develop an extensive and cohesive body of work. He has been represented by GF Contemporary and Strata Gallery in Santa Fe.
A major monograph on King’s work will be released in mid-2026, accompanied by a substantial body of work available for exhibition and placement.
